7 Rare Treasures: Valuable American Nickels in Circulation

1913 Liberty Head Nickel: This nickel is one of the most famous and valuable coins in American numismatic history. Only five are known to exist, and each is worth millions of dollars. 

1937-D 3-Legged Buffalo Nickel: Due to a minting error, some 1937-D Buffalo Nickels were struck with a weakened or missing foreleg on the buffalo, resulting in the "3-Legged" variety.  

1942-1945 "War Nickels": During World War II, nickels were minted with 35% silver content to conserve nickel for the war effort.

1950-D Jefferson Nickel: This coin is sought after by collectors due to its low mintage and relative scarcity. In mint condition, it commands a premium over its face value. 

1955 Doubled Die Jefferson Nickel: Some 1955 Jefferson Nickels were struck with a doubled die error, resulting in doubling of the inscriptions and features on the coin.  

2004-2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series: These nickels were issued to commemorate the Lewis and Clark expedition and feature various designs related to the journey.
